AMLD EPFL 2025
The Applied Machine Learning Days (AMLD) at the SwissTech Convention Center, EPFL Lausanne (February 11-14 2025) are the premier conference where industry leaders, academics, innovative startups, and forward-thinking government representatives come together to explore and drive the future of AI and machine learning.
Jochem Braakhekke, part of the scientific NPOC, co-organized the track "AI & Space - Business cases and societal benefits", together with Grégoire Bourban from Space Exchange Switzerland (SXS). With fantastic speakers from EPFL, ICRC, askEarth, OroraTech, Picterra, IBM and Polaris, this session presented an overview of the latest developments regarding the application of AI to add value to petabytes of Earth Observation data. After the insightful talks, a hands-on session introduced the audience to the use of state-of-the-art EO foundation models, to autodetect floodings and landslides on satellite data.
From ocean plastic tracking to early wildfire detection, and from geospatial LLM agents to new EO foundation models - the potential of AI and EO data is enormous and Swiss researchers and companies are right there, at the forefront of these developments.
