AMLD EPFL 2024

AMLD EPFL 2024 (March 23-26) was an incredible four-day event, gathering AI and machine learning experts from industry, academia, and government, at the SwissTech Convention Center, EPFL Lausanne. With over 1800 participants from 40 counties, more than 450 speakers, 43 tracks, 28 workshops, keynote speakers, poster sessions, an exhibition, startup pitches and more, the event provided participants an opportunity to hear the latest research and insights in AI and machine learning, and add their voice to the conversation.

Claudia Röösli, head of the scientific NPOC, co-organized the track "AI & Space - Algorithms for socio-economic benefits". With high-level speakers from Google, AskEarth, UNICEF and IBM, this session presented an overview of the latest tech-developments in the domain of Earth observation and remote sensing as well as the needs from end-users and a perspective on the future challenges. Through concrete examples, the track highlighted the benefits society can retrieve and how EO contributes to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Following on the success of 2024, the NPOC will co-organise a similar track at the next AMLD on 13 February 2025.
